Intercept Connects the Homeless
Thursday, January 29, 2009
Intercept, the virtual IT and unified communications specialist in partnership with the Aimar Foundation supplied 130 online desktops from its cloud computing service to Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people, to support its work over Christmas .

Crisis opened nine temporary centres between 23 and 30 December offering homeless and vulnerably housed people companionship, access to essential services and advice, learning opportunities and a programme of entertainment.

Intercept supplied the service as part of a broader solution provided to the Aimar Foundation, an organisation that provides high quality IT solutions to the not for profit sector. The project enabled Crisis to offer essential IT skills, as well as access and use of the vast information available on the web as a resource for building a better life.

James Tedman, board trustee of the Aimar Foundation says: "The Aimar Foundation looks for innovative ways to deliver IT solutions to charities, the Intercept online desktop solution allows us to offer a highly functional and fully supported computing environment over low bandwidth connectivity. We were tremendously impressed with the Intercept team who helped us to deliver a very successful project for Crisis Christmas".

The Aimar Foundation is a not for profit organisation founded in 2005, it provides a commercial grade technology service to small to medium sized charities. Working with Intercept will enable them access to the latest applications as well as high-level telephone support.

Ian Readman, CEO at Intercept says: “We are very proud to be involved in such a worthwhile cause especially during a time of year where homeless people experience such acute isolation and disadvantage”.

Online desktop is perfect for this type of deployment as low cost equipment can be installed in the Crisis Centres with all the applications and data stored centrally at Intercept's data centres.

“We work with many not for profit organisations across all our business units such as Barnardo’s, Help The Aged, New Philanthropy Capital, RSPB, and a number of Housing Trusts. We are delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile cause with the Aimar Foundation and Crisis”.
