"Cloud computing, the idea of
software and services that live on servers 'in the
cloud' rather than individual computer hard drives, is
going to be a mainstay of 2009... with people
increasingly expecting to access their crucial data,
software and information wherever they
are." The Telegraph, 30

Virtualisation is a key infrastructure priority for top
CIOs looking to reduce costs and increase energy efficiency in
2009. Far smaller companies have also discovered virtualised,
fully managed, IT environments to deliver enterprise level IT
systems without the financial outlay of hardware. The credit
crunch has a solution it seems.
So who is spearheading this revolution - or is it an
evolution that was bound to happen? And where are the cost
savings to be made, without costing the company its IT
integrity? Intercept explore the reality of virtualisation for
you...

Rescuing the
Enterprise
Enterprise companies can now reduce purchase, deployment,
and support costs by complete virtualisation of their
desktops, applications and storage facilities. This new
infrastructure can show additional improvements in user
experience and flexibility, business continuity, reduced data
loss potential, and extend the life of their PC fleet.
This server-centric computing model is designed to give
system administrators the best of both worlds: the ability to
host virtual machines, to easily manage and upgrade software,
and secure data in the data centre, while giving end users a
full PC desktop experience - from anywhere, at any time.
Intercept have have virtualised over 100,000 desktops in
the UK using Citrix, Microsoft, VMware and other software
vendor solutions to suit the client.

"Reducing costs by consolidating
servers is the number 1 priority for the world's leading
CIOs in 2009. Intercept have virtualised over 5,000
servers saving our clients £18 million in hardware costs
and over £2.3 million in annual energy
costs." Intercept IT

Rescuing the SME &
Workgroups
More than anyone, small/medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are
feeling the pinch in their pockets at the moment. But costs
can be reduced, efficiencies found, and a better computing
environment achieved though their largest asset expenditures -
namely rental and IT equipment. Now staff can work from home
or clients' sites without huge overheads and office technology
costs can be slashed - delivered virtually on an as-needed
basis. Fully hosted IT facilities for which you pay an
affordable per month, per user price plan is here from
Intercept.
No longer do SMEs have to invest huge up-front costs in the
technology their customers expect. They can achieve enterprise
quality computing, telecoms and voice communications at a
fraction of the price, upgrade their technology, and free
their users.

Crisis, What Crisis?
Intercept Connects with the Homeless

Intercept, in partnership with the Aimar Foundation,
supplied 130 online desktops from its cloud computing service
to London charity group Crisis, for its Christmas initiative.
The project enabled Crisis to offer essential IT skills, as
well as access and use of the vast information available on
the web as a resource for building a better life.
James Tedman, board trustee of the Aimar Foundation says:
"Intercept already provide us with its online desktop solution
as a cost-effective alternative to purchasing our own IT
infrastructure. We were tremendously pleased to be working
with them to provide this service to Crisis over the Christmas
period. Online desktop is perfect for this type of deployment
as low cost equipment can be installed in the Crisis Centres
with all the applications and data stored centrally at
Intercept's data centres."
Intercept works with many non-profit organisations such as
Barnardo's, Help The Aged, New Philanthropy Capital, RSPB, and
a number of Housing Trusts.

New remote access gateway technology

In today's complex network and IT environments, more and
more people need access to corporate servers, applications,
databases and management tools. While trying to minimise human
intervention with these critical services, IT managers need to
consider how to allow the remote access and management of
these services: Who to allow access; How to secure and audit
access; How to record all actions that are performed on these
servers.
ObserveIT, an Intercept partner, empowers companies to
demonstrate Compliance, augment Security Administration and
reduce mean-time-between-failure for systems administrators.
The software visually records and replays all Terminal,
Citrix, and Console sessions, providing detailed insight into
all activities on your network.
FREE TRIAL ObserveIT Trial
Edition allows you to monitor up to 5 servers in your network.
The Trial edition expires after 15 days. We have also setup a
hosted demo to provide you accesses to ObserveIT Web console
Interface without the need to download trial version or
dedicate test machines. The hosted demo displays real-time
activities performed on a real production server.

What is Cloud Computing
The way ahead for your computing
environment.

Gartner defines Cloud Computing as computing where
massively scalable IT capabilities are provided 'as a
service'. The benefits of such an approach can be to lower IT
operational costs, increase business continuity needs,
reliability and easier flexible working for employees.
Cloud Computing is changing not just the technology
landscape but also the entire nature of business models. With
cloud computing, you put no cash down for your own data
centre, but instead pay as you go. There is no penalty for
scaling up and ensures no dead or idle CPUs, and no
provisioning requirements.
The combination of Cloud Computing with a virtual
environment delivers better user and administrator experiences
along with less energy consumption and wastage - a greener
technology.

From the
Inside Out
Looking at the IT industry from
the Intercept IT point of view
UK businesses are going
through a period of change, re-evaluation, and in some cases
'taking cover' to avoid the economic uncertainty. Budgets have
never been so squeezed, plans scrutinized and making the right
decisions in choice of technologies is 'a must'.
As Will Brooks, General Manager at Intercept says "the
computing industry is now more complicated than ever, and
about to undergo massive change due to the current economic
climate. At Intercept we can see these business changes taking
place to many of the companies we come across. Budget cutbacks
and nervousness inevitably affects IT and often gives rise to
cheaper, less effective choices being taken. I'm pleased to
say Intercept are growing in this environment. Not only
because virtualisation is the latest 'buzz', but because of
the real difference it can make to companies in the way that
they work - with more flexibility and efficiency. It is also
noticeably reducing our customers' overhead expenditure on a
daily basis and satisfying the environmental requirements of
many organisations."
From the complete virtualised infrastructure of large
businesses to managed services for smaller companies -
Intercept is playing its part to reduce cost, build better
solutions and benefit the environment.

Law into
their Own Hands
Kennedys Legal Firm take control
of their systems

Kennedys is a global law firm headquartered in the City of
London. Accelerated business growth has resulted in new
offices and an influx of lawyers and other staff worldwide.
Relocation of its three London offices to a central
headquarters provided the ideal opportunity to upgrade its
core IT infrastructure to meet the firm's evolving
demands.
Working alongside Intercept, Kennedys overhauled its global
data centres, implemented a resilient disaster recovery (DR)
plan and improved remote working capabilities. Not only that,
but they were able to do it without disruption to their
employees and customers, complete it within budget and to the
deadline. The new facilities are projected to save the firm
upwards of £350,000 a year.
